RabbitCAM X: Your Designs Stay With You

When you open a CAD file in your CAM software, you are trusting that software with something important. Sometimes it is a simple part, sometimes it is a customer design, and sometimes it is a product that has not even been released yet. In many cases, that file represents months or even years of engineering work.

At SourceRabbit, we believe that data should stay with you. That is why RabbitCAM X is designed as offline CAM software.

RabbitCAM X does not need to upload your CAD models to a cloud server in order to generate toolpaths, simulate machining operations or create NC code. Your CAD Files (STEP, DXF, IGES, STL), CAM projects, toolpaths and manufacturing data remain on your computer and under your control.

You do not need to send your designs to SourceRabbit just to machine a part. For us, this is an important part of how professional CAM software should work.

A CAM system has access to some of the most valuable data inside a workshop. A CAD model may contain the complete geometry of a product, while a CAM project can also include tooling decisions, machining strategies, cutting parameters, setups and other information about how that product is manufactured.

All of this can be valuable intellectual property. RabbitCAM X is designed so that this information does not need to be transferred to SourceRabbit servers for the core CAM workflow to function. The calculations happen locally on your own machine, while the data stays with you.

RabbitCAM X is not a cloud application that happens to offer an offline mode. Its CAM engine is designed to work locally.

You can import your model, create machining operations, calculate toolpaths, simulate material removal and post-process your program using the computing power of your own workstation. There is no need to upload the model somewhere else before the software can do its job.

Your computer already has the geometry, the CAM project and the processing power required to calculate the toolpaths. We see no reason why your design should have to leave it.

Every time manufacturing data is copied to another system, server or online service, another copy of that data exists somewhere outside your direct control.

For some users this may not be a concern, but for many machine shops and engineering companies it can be very important. Customer designs, prototypes, confidential components and proprietary products often need to remain private.

By keeping the CAM workflow local, RabbitCAM X reduces the need for your manufacturing data to travel through the Internet or be stored on third-party infrastructure. There is no mandatory cloud storage for your CAM projects, and SourceRabbit does not need to store copies of your CAD models for you to generate toolpaths.

Your files stay where you choose to keep them.

Keeping your projects locally also means that you decide how they are stored and protected. You can keep them on your workstation, an internal company server, your own NAS or whatever backup solution fits your workflow.

Of course, local storage does not remove the need for backups. A failed drive, accidental deletion or damaged computer can still result in lost data if no backup exists. The difference is that you decide where those backups are stored and who has access to them.

The control remains with you.

We are building RabbitCAM X for CNC users, engineers, workshops and manufacturers who want modern CAM software without being required to send their designs to a third-party cloud platform.

Online services can be useful, and there are many situations where they make sense. But we do not believe that uploading your CAD model should be a requirement simply because you want to generate a toolpath.

For the core RabbitCAM X workflow, your own computer does the work and your manufacturing data stays where it belongs: with you.
