From March 2017 through October 2025, my main professional focus was designing and manufacturing desktop CNC machines under the SourceRabbit brand. Over those years, I worked with several CAM software solutions and, naturally, recommended some of them to my customers. However, they all had one thing in common: they were expensive and often difficult to access.
For anyone involved in CNC machining, CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is an essential part of the workflow. It is the software that transforms a design into toolpaths and, ultimately, into the instructions the machine will execute. Its cost and ease of use directly affect how easily someone can move from an idea to a finished part.
As a machine manufacturer, this part of the customer experience was particularly important to me. Purchasing a CNC machine is already a significant investment. When a high software cost is added on top of that, getting into CNC manufacturing becomes even more difficult for a small workshop, an independent professional, or someone taking their first steps into CNC machining.
I understand that developing CAM software requires specialized knowledge, time, and continuous effort. Software like this has real value and, above all, needs to be reliable. At the same time, I believe there is room for tools designed around the needs of smaller workshops, at a price they can realistically support.
That idea became the starting point for RabbitCAM X.
I wanted to make use of the experience I had gained from building machines and working with the software required to operate them. My goal was to create a CAM solution centered around the person standing in front of the machine, trying to make something — with practical functionality, an understandable workflow, and accessibility as key priorities.
For the development of RabbitCAM X, I chose Java because of its combination of flexibility, high performance, and the ability to run across different operating systems. For me, these characteristics provide a strong foundation for CAM software that I intend to keep evolving, adding new capabilities while responding to the needs of its users.
As CEO of SourceRabbit, I see RabbitCAM X as the natural continuation of this journey. My work began with building the machine itself and eventually led me to developing the software people need to make the most of it.
I created RabbitCAM X because I wanted to be able to recommend a solution to my customers that was designed with their needs in mind — a solution that could help them get started more easily, make better use of their equipment, and spend more time doing what really matters to them: making things.
My goal for the coming year is to continue developing RabbitCAM X through small, consistent weekly updates. These updates will introduce features requested by users while also improving the software's stability, usability, and overall capabilities.
I want its development to be guided by the real-world needs of the people who actually use it. Through continuous development and communication with the community, my aim is for RabbitCAM X to become a serious and reliable tool for both professionals and hobbyists working with CNC machines.
